Enrique R. Gonzales, Jr.
Attorney at Law
I graduated summa cum laude from Arizona State University (ASU) where I studied Criminal Justice & Criminology and minored in Anthropology. While attending ASU as an undergraduate student, I was admitted into my program's honor society and served as a representative.
I began my commitment to criminal law that following summer after interning at the Santa Cruz County Attorney's Office in Nogales, Arizona. Following that summer internship, I decided to focus on gaining true practical experience to prepare myself as an effective trial lawyer: I completed another summer internship at the Santa Cruz County Attorney's Office, two additional internships at the Maricopa County Attorney's Office in Phoenix, Arizona, and a law clerk position at a boutique criminal defense firm in Chandler, Arizona.
During my legal studies, I targeted trial practice courses and completed a criminal law practice clinic where I tried several criminal trials as a law student. I graduated with a juris doctorate degree from ASU, and I was awarded distinctions as a Trial Advocacy Fellow and William H. Pedrick Scholar.
After becoming a licensed attorney, I returned to my roots and began my career as a defense lawyer. I subsequently accepted a position at the Santa Cruz County Attorney's Office where I initially handled the misdemeanor and traffic division. I was later promoted to the felony division and assigned to lead the drug felony caseload--working with the federal and state drug task force. In addition to my busy role as a drug prosecutor, I prosecuted numerous other felony matters and was nominated by my office for a Rising Star Award for my efforts and commitment to my cases.
After several years of working in criminal law and earning a reputation as a fearless trial lawyer, I opened Gonzo Law, P.L.L.C. to provide effective legal representation--including aggressive criminal defense--to my clients. I also served the Town of Patagonia as their Town Attorney & Prosecutor.
In addition to my legal career, I volunteered as a football coach at Nogales High School and taught a criminal law course at Pima Community College.
